Production Term 1 (30th March 2020)
Grease could very well be cursed. It’s unfortunate because I felt like over the course of this term, hit my stride in directing with Thomas and Mr. Gibson by my side. Everyone seemed to be on the same page, choreography had finally begun to be intensive and teams such as tech and makeup had made significant progress too. This is likely going to be a huge setback for everybody involved as a lot of students will likely forget their lines, plans, and rhythm in the process of things and there could be others who will not return such as Ethan Sutherland who is playing quite a big role in Kenickie.
If this is the end, which it won’t be because you always have to be confident that things will continue, I just wanted to say a couple of things should anyone including my future self read this. I’m grateful that this experience happened, because the hands on approach taught me more about directing in eight weeks than a classroom ever did in six years. It’s challenging being the focal point of everything, as there’s so much to manage but once you get the hang of it and focus on your team (The actors) it’s usually smooth sailing from there. If I had to take just one thing away from this experience, it would be that I need to focus on myself more rather than being worried about what other people think. In the end, it was my production along with Thomas and Mr. Gibson, and no one should have the right to backtalk any of us after the work we’ve put in and hopefully will continue to do.
